2017 marks the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the Protestant Reformation. When Martin Luther lit the match at Wittenberg and the conflagration covered much of the Western world. Stephen Nichols says the Reformation is the true tale of ‘how a monk with a mallet changed the world.’ Unfortunately, some of the world—the Spanish-speaking world to be precise—did not feel the effects of the Reformation.
The wind may be shifting now. Reports from many different corners of the Spanish-speaking world say that the Lord is awakening many to a saving knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ AND an appreciation for the historic doctrines of grace.
Even as we thank God for his new work in Latin America, we in Sovereign Grace know that the Lord has sustained a multi-decade work at Iglesia Cristiana Gracia Soberana (Sovereign Grace Christian Church) in Juarez, MX. Gracia Soberana has done their part to put a stamp of gospel fruitfulness in Northern Mexico and beyond. One way the church led by Carlos Contreras have lit the match of gospel faithfulness is by planting churches. Those two churches are Mision de Gracia in El Paso, TX (led by Helman Avila) and Iglesia Cristiana Gracia Soberana in Augascalientes, MX (led by Elias Reyes).
